Andy Robertson set to reach 100 Scotland caps as Nations League tie looms
WHAT HAPPENED
Scotland captain Andy Robertson could reach 100 international caps in Saturday's Nations League game against North Macedonia, a milestone that would make him only the second man to reach a century for Scotland in more than 150 years of the national team.

KEY CONTEXT
Kenny Dalglish remains Scotland's most-capped player on 102 appearances. Robertson could move further towards that mark if he features in Scotland's remaining Nations League fixtures this year. Dalglish's record of 30 goals — shared with Denis Law — is currently out of Robertson's reach.

Robertson's Scotland career began when Gordon Strachan handed him his debut as a 19-year-old in a win over Poland in March 2014. At the time he was a fresh-faced left-back with Dundee United; he later established himself at Liverpool and was made Scotland captain by Alex McLeish after Scott Brown retired in 2018. McLeish described him as the "outstanding candidate" and an "inspirational figure." At the moment McLeish handed him the armband, Robertson had 22 caps and was 24.

Since becoming captain, Robertson has captained Scotland 29 times more than any other player and is the only man to have led Scotland out at three major finals, reaching that milestone at the World Cup this summer. Midfielder Scott McTominay said: "He's such a great captain and he's got that good balance between being one of the senior players and saying you need to wake up if you're not playing well. Then he's also got the personable side, organising things with the manager, helping young players and stuff. He's brilliant with that, brilliant."

Across a 12-year international career Robertson has played under four different permanent Scotland team bosses. He also featured once under interim manager Malky Mackay in a friendly against the Netherlands at Pittodrie in 2017 and has played twice for new boss Sebastien Pocognoli. Robertson is mainly associated with Steve Clarke's seven-year stint in charge, during which the pair led Scotland to three major tournaments.

OTHER DETAILS
Among current Scotland players, John McGinn sits eight caps behind Robertson on the nation's all-time list.
