Brian Brobbey joins rare Premier League list after hat-trick in defeat
What happened
Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick for Sunderland in their 5-3 defeat at Manchester City. His three goals make him only the fifth different player to record a Premier League hat-trick while on the losing side.

Previous occasions
- Matt Le Tissier: Oldham Athletic 4-3 Southampton (8 May 1993)
- Matt Le Tissier: Southampton 3-4 Nottingham Forest (August 1995)
- Dion Dublin: Coventry City 3-4 Sheffield Wednesday (December 1995)
- Dwight Yorke: Aston Villa 3-4 Newcastle (September 1996)
- Roque Santa Cruz: Wigan Athletic 5-3 Blackburn Rovers (15 December 2007)

Why it matters
This is the first time a player has scored a Premier League hat-trick in a defeat since December 2007, and only the sixth occurrence since the competition began in 1992. That combination of individual scoring and team defeat is exceptionally rare in the top flight.
