Brighton agree £15m deal for Millwall winger Azeez

WHAT HAPPENED
Brighton have reached an agreement to sign Nigeria winger Femi Azeez from Millwall. The 25-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign last season, contributing 11 goals and 8 assists in 37 appearances and earning a place in the PFA Championship team of the year.

The initial payment to Millwall is reported at £12.5m, with the fee able to increase beyond £15m through add-ons. Millwall had turned down at least three bids from Brighton in recent weeks.

KEY CONTEXT
- Azeez moved to Millwall from Reading for about £1m earlier in 2024 and is entering the final two years of his contract.
- He had been omitted from Millwall’s last three matchday squads under manager Alex Neil.
- The transfer would set a new sale record for Millwall.
- This would be Brighton’s 11th signing of the summer; their window has included a club-record £45m capture of Tottenham centre-back Luka Vuskovic and has been funded in part by large departures such as Carlos Baleba’s reported £70m move to Manchester United.
- Other clubs have been linked to related business: Liverpool with Yankuba Minteh, and Championship side Wrexham are understood to have shown interest in Azeez.

WHY IT MATTERS
Azeez’s statistical output and his selection in the PFA Championship team of the year underline why Premier League clubs were pursuing him. For Millwall, the deal represents their biggest incoming fee and significant transfer income. For Brighton, it continues a busy summer of recruitment fueled by substantial sales, reflecting ongoing squad turnover.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT
- Whether add-ons will push the fee beyond the reported £15m threshold.
- Formal completion steps for the transfer (medical, contract signing) and when Azeez will be available for selection at Brighton.
- How Millwall respond on the pitch following the sale and whether players linked away from Brighton affect their squad plans.
