Brobbey hat-trick not enough as Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3
Manchester City moved clear at the top of the Premier League with a 5-3 win over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium. Brian Brobbey hit a hat-trick for the visitors — his first goals of the season — but Sunderland still lost, while Erling Haaland scored late to end a run in which Sunderland had been the only Premier League side he had not troubled.

PLAYER RATINGS — MANCHESTER CITY
Gianluigi Donnarumma (5) – Could do little about Sunderland's goals but was criticised for coming out for high balls into the box.
Matheus Nunes (5) – Caught sleeping when a ball over the top allowed Angulo to get in behind for Brobbey's finish.
Ruben Dias (5) – Not at his best; was caught flat-footed for Brobbey's opener but made a remarkable goalline clearance.
Marc Guehi (5) – Added an assist to his name but had an uncomfortable afternoon.
Josko Gvardiol (6) – Failed to close down for Sunderland's second goal but delivered the cross for Haaland's goal.
Elliot Anderson (6) – Jeered by travelling Sunderland fans but completed more passes than any other player on the pitch.
Enzo Fernandez (7) – Scored his first City goal from a curled free-kick and was influential around the box.
Iliman Ndiaye (6) – Started in place of the suspended Phil Foden and was lively, nearly assisting Haaland.
Antoine Semenyo (9) – Twice found the net for his first goals of the season and helped set up Rayan Cherki's goal.
Rayan Cherki (8) – Produced delicate touches, helped create City's opener and coolly finished City's second.
Erling Haaland (6) – Missed a simple chance in the first half but scored late to end that unwanted statistic.
Subs: Jeremy Doku (on 74, Ndiaye) 6; Nico O'Reilly (on 85, Cherki) 6. Subs not used included Rulli, Kovacic, Ait-Nouri, Bouaddi, Allan, Khusanov, Lewis.

PLAYER RATINGS — SUNDERLAND
Robin Roefs (4) – Will be disappointed to be beaten at his near post for one of City's goals.
Kevin Danso (5) – A poor clearance led to City regaining possession high up for Cherki's goal.
Dan Ballard (5) – Part of a backline that conceded three times in the opening 45 minutes.
Dayann Methalie (5) – Booked inside 10 minutes of his Premier League debut and had a difficult match against Ndiaye.
Granit Xhaka (6) – The captain helped Sunderland get back on level terms twice during the game.
Noah Sadiki (6) – Found space to shoot after darting forward but fired his attempt high and wide.
Thomas Meunier (7) – Could have shot for Sunderland's second but instead set up Brobbey to finish.
