Celtic posts £4.8m loss as revenue falls 22.7% after Champions League miss
Celtic have revealed a loss after tax of £4.8m for the year ending June 30, a reversal from a £33.9m profit the previous year. The club said the change was largely driven by the failure to secure Champions League participation, with revenue down 22.7% to £111m (from £143.6m in 2025). Celtic reported cash in the bank of £66.4m.

WHAT HAPPENED
Interim chairman Brian Wilson described the campaign as "more turbulent than anyone would have wished for" while praising Martin O'Neill and his staff for "demonstrating extraordinary resilience" after they delivered a league and Scottish Cup double. The club had three different managers during 2025-26: Brendan Rodgers departed, Wilfried Nancy was dismissed after an eight-game reign, and Martin O'Neill returned.

Wilson also noted that chairman Peter Lawwell retired in December, citing "abuse and threats".

FINANCES AND TRANSFER ACTIVITY
Celtic said they spent £31.6m in the summer on Kasper Hogh, Camilo Duran, Mika Baur, Haissem Hassan, Joel van den Berg and Jordan Lotomba. Loan deals brought in Landon Emenalo, Shumaira Mheuka, Sam Johnstone and Oliver Sorensen. The club did not disclose how much had been received from player sales, including departures such as Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate.

COMPETITION STATUS
Celtic will compete in the Europa League this term after losing to LASK in the Champions League play-off. Domestically they are out of the League Cup and their Premiership lead has been reduced to two points following back-to-back defeats by Rangers.

WHAT COMES NEXT
Wilson said work is "ongoing" to improve communication and supporter engagement and that the search for a permanent chairman continues.
