Chelsea revive interest in Jules Kounde as Barcelona weigh sale
WHAT HAPPENED
Chelsea have reportedly revived their interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde ahead of the January transfer window. Blues head coach Xabi Alonso values Kounde’s experience in the centre of defence and has urged the club to consider a fresh move for the France international.

CONTEXT
Kounde joined Barcelona from Sevilla after Chelsea had shown interest in him during his time in Spain. At Barcelona he has often featured as a right-back in recent seasons, although he is primarily a central defender by trade.

Barcelona are said to be open to selling Kounde for the right price, with his exit under consideration after contract talks stalled at the club. The reported asking figure is around £40m.

POTENTIAL COMPETITION
Chelsea are not expected to face a clear run for Kounde’s signature. Premier League rivals Arsenal are described as long-term admirers and have reportedly earmarked him as a possible target while they explore the possibility of replacing Ben White next year.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Interest is set against the backdrop of the January transfer window; no deal is confirmed and discussions remain speculative at this stage.
