Clarence Seedorf has been appointed head coach of Corinthians, signing a contract that runs until the end of 2027. The 50-year-old takes charge of the Brazilian club while they sit 16th in the top flight, one place above the relegation zone with eight league games remaining.
CONTEXT
Seedorf succeeds Fernando Diniz, who was sacked by Corinthians last week after the club lost seven consecutive league games. The appointment is described as Seedorf’s first coaching role since 2019. The source also notes his last previous managerial post was with the Cameroon national team more than seven years ago.
Seedorf inherits a squad that includes former Manchester United players Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard.
FROM PLAYER TO MANAGER
A decorated former midfielder, Seedorf retired from playing in 2014. He won four Champions League titles during his career — two with AC Milan, and one each with Real Madrid and Ajax — and remains the only player to win the competition with three different clubs. He earned 87 caps for the Netherlands, scoring 11 goals.
ON THE APPOINTMENT
Commenting on taking the Corinthians job, Seedorf said: "Taking on this challenge is an honour, but also a huge responsibility. I am here to give my all and build a team that fights for every ball, every minute, every victory."
