Dani Carvajal joins Getafe after exit from Real Madrid
WHAT HAPPENED
Dani Carvajal, the former Real Madrid captain, has joined Getafe on a free transfer after his contract at the Bernabéu expired in June. The 34-year-old has signed a deal with Getafe that runs until June next year.

KEY CONTEXT
Carvajal spent 23 years with Real Madrid and won 27 trophies during his time at the club, including six Champions League titles. He made 51 appearances for Spain and was part of the squads that won the Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.

In recent seasons he has been hampered by serious knee problems: a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 and another serious knee injury a year later. Those injuries, together with the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer, limited his playing time in his final season at Real Madrid.

Getafe, who sit 11th in La Liga and are based in the south of Spain's capital city, said they welcomed his "experience and leadership".

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Carvajal is contracted at Getafe until June next year. Beyond the signing and the contract length, no further timetable or details were provided.
