Everton owners Friedkin Group exploring sale of club
October 9, 2026 10:01
The Friedkin Group (TFG) has announced it is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including "the potential sale of a controlling interest." The statement comes less than two years after TFG completed its takeover of the club in 2024.
CONTEXT
TFG said its initial priorities were to provide stability, investment and support to a club that, in its view, faced "significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch" when it became custodian. The group added that it helped bring Everton's long-promised new stadium to completion last year and that, with that foundation in place, the time is right "to consider the next chapter."
The 2024 takeover was understood to have been worth in excess of £400m.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
TFG described its activity as an exploration of investment options; the statement did not set out a timetable or further steps for any potential sale.
