Ipswich Town have completed the signings of winger Julio Enciso and midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from French side Strasbourg. Both players have agreed five-year deals with the Tractor Boys.
The transfer package is reported to be structured so the combined cost could rise to £47.3m. Both players previously worked under Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil while in France, and Enciso returns to Portman Road after spending the second half of the 2024–25 season on loan there.
KEY CONTEXT
- Enciso is a Paraguay international and, according to the report, has 37 senior caps for his country. He spent three years on Brighton’s books before moving to Strasbourg and had a loan spell at Ipswich during the club’s promotion campaign.
- Ouattara is an Ivorian midfielder, aged 20, who made 45 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg and was part of the side that reached the UEFA Conference League semi-finals last season.
- Since earning promotion from the Championship, Ipswich have invested heavily in their squad; these two additions bring the club’s spending to about £150m and mark the 12th major arrival.
WHY IT MATTERS
These inbound signings add experience at different levels: Enciso brings international experience and familiarity with Ipswich from his loan spell, while Ouattara arrives with regular top-flight minutes and recent European competition exposure. The moves also underline Ipswich’s continued transfer-market ambition following promotion and ahead of their return to the Premier League.
WHAT TO WATCH NEXT
- Whether the reported transfer package actually reaches the cited £47.3m ceiling, since that figure is presented as a potential total rather than a confirmed final sum.
- How quickly Enciso and Ouattara settle into Gary O'Neil’s squad and connect with supporters, a step both players have remarked they are eager to take.
- Ipswich’s squad choices and integration of their new signings ahead of the season opener at home to Sunderland on 22 August.
