Jamie Carragher settles unpaid tax bill and bankruptcy petition is dismissed
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has settled an unpaid tax bill and will not be made bankrupt after a petition to force bankruptcy was dismissed at the Insolvency and Companies Court.

Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed the petition, issued in August, after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) told the hearing in London that the debt had been paid. Kevin Hassan, representing HMRC, confirmed the payment but no figure was given in court. The amount had previously been reported to be in the region of £700,000 to £800,000.

Carragher, 48, spent his entire professional career with Liverpool and was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2005. He retired in 2013 after making 737 appearances for the club and has since worked as a pundit, appearing on Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
