Liverpool considering January bid for AZ midfielder Kees Smit
Liverpool could submit a formal offer for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit during the winter transfer window, according to Teamtalk.

The Reds parted ways with Curtis Jones over the summer and did not secure a replacement before the close of the transfer window, a shortfall they are expected to address at the start of the year. Smit is said to be one of the top targets on Liverpool’s radar.

Smit has been a long-term target for Liverpool and was first linked with the club while Arne Slot was in charge at Anfield. The club’s interest has reportedly continued despite the managerial change earlier this summer, when Andoni Iraola replaced Slot.

This season at AZ the Dutch youngster has been used as an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a number eight and a number six, and has enjoyed success across those positions. AZ Alkmaar are expected to demand at least £51m to sanction his sale.

What happens next
Liverpool are expected to look again for midfield reinforcements at the start of the year, and could lodge a bid for Smit in the January window, per the reporting.
