Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make a big-money move for Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo next year, according to Teamtalk. The club are said to be keeping a close eye on the defender and could be willing to spend heavily to sign him.
KEY CONTEXT
United did not recruit a new central defender in the summer but are expected to identify a fresh solution by the end of the season. Lisandro Martinez remains the club's undisputed choice at left centre-back, yet the Argentine's injury concerns have been noted by United's hierarchy. The club are reportedly assessing whether to offer Martinez a new contract and there is a possibility he could be sold next summer.
TRANSFER DETAILS REPORTED
Murillo was valued at around £80m 12 months ago, the reports note, but sources expect he could be available for a reduced fee at the end of the campaign. EyeFootball's summary of the Teamtalk report states a deal could be done for around £60m including add-ons.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
According to the reports, United's assessment of their central-defensive options will continue through the season, with any approach for Murillo likely to come next year if the club decide to pursue one.
