Martin O'Neill says decision to remain Celtic manager 'didn't take that long'

The 74-year-old signed a one-year deal to remain in charge following two interim spells last season that ended with a league and Scottish Cup double. His comments come after consecutive defeats by Rangers either side of a 3-1 Europa League loss to Ferencvaros; Celtic also suffered a 1-0 home loss to Rangers three weeks ago, their first dropped points in the league.
O'Neill admitted the results prompted reflection — saying "it might be time to wrap it up" — but added that "as long as the football club wanted me, I was happy to do it." He also suggested the international break gave him extra time to consider his future: "Had there been no international break, I probably wouldn't even have said what I said."
Looking ahead to a Premiership visit to Motherwell at Fir Park, O'Neill highlighted a congested schedule, noting he is preparing for nine games over a 28-day period before the next international window. On the squad and ambitions he said: "I have belief in the team and I think that our focus should be to try to win the league." He also spoke about his continued passion for the game, adding "I have great enthusiasm" and that he remains concerned for matches despite sometimes saying he does not enjoy management.
