Morgan Rogers: Bournemouth loan left him worth £1m before £117m Chelsea move
WHAT HAPPENED
Morgan Rogers says a challenging spell on loan at Bournemouth left him questioning his future — his market value fell to around £1m — three years before he became Chelsea's £117m club-record signing. He described that period as a series of "difficult loans" that forced him to learn how to "take knocks."

KEY CONTEXT
Rogers' transition from academy football into senior men’s football was uneven. After a productive loan at Lincoln City — where he scored six goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances and helped the side to the play-off final — he moved to Bournemouth on loan from Manchester City.
At Bournemouth he started only three matches and scored once, the goal coming against Luton Town in the Championship. Former scout Des Taylor called him a "slow burner," adding that the move arrived late in the window and Rogers was not played in his preferred number 10 role under Scott Parker. Rogers later had another underwhelming Championship loan at Blackpool, according to the account of his career progress.

PLAYER REFLECTIONS AND VIEWS
Speaking to Chelsea's club channel, Rogers said the experience forced self-reliance: "Everything... I needed that next challenge, to be taken out of my comfort zone and find the player I was going to be in professional football." He added: "The one thing I learned when going through these difficult loans is that I couldn't care less what people say about me. I just care about what I can control."
Lincoln manager Michael Appleton, who brought Rogers to Sincil Bank from West Brom's academy, recalled his confidence and determination, including an early example of Rogers volunteering to mark taller opposition in a set-piece. Former Bournemouth team-mate Steve Cook said the club had the opportunity to sign Rogers permanently (reportedly for £9m) but it "didn't work out," and praised his character.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Chelsea face Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, the club Rogers described as the scene of one of his more difficult loan spells.
