Pep Guardiola expected to return to Etihad for Man City v PSG
October 7, 2026 22:20
Pep Guardiola is expected to attend Manchester City’s Champions League home tie with Paris St-Germain on Wednesday, 14 October. It would be his first visit to the Etihad Stadium since he left the club at the end of last season after a decade as manager.
KEY CONTEXT
The fixture will be City’s first home match since an independent commission found the club guilty of the majority of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League, including findings that City breached financial regulations between 2009-10 and 2017-18. The commission’s report said the club had falsely inflated commercial revenues by £830m through what it described as "sham" contracts.
Manchester City deny any wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal against the commission’s findings. In the aftermath of the verdict Guardiola publicly backed the club’s owners and leadership, posting on social media: "I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever" and that he will "always" be behind the club, the owner, the chairman, Ferran Soriano, the players, staff, Enzo Maresca and supporters.
A decade in charge at City saw Guardiola lead the club to six Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
City return to action after a three-week international break with a Premier League trip to Liverpool on Sunday (16:30 BST), before hosting PSG in the Champions League on 14 October, when Guardiola is expected to be in the stands.
