Police officer injured, 10 arrested after Liverpool 0-3 Man City
A police officer suffered a serious facial injury and 10 people were arrested after Manchester City's 3-0 win at Anfield, Merseyside Police have said.

WHAT HAPPENED
Merseyside Police said one man was arrested on suspicion of two offences of assault against a police constable after Sunday's match, with the arrest made on Anfield Road at around 18:30 BST. The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home. In total, 10 people were detained: five on suspicion of chanting about a tragedy, one on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assault, two for affray and one for allegedly throwing items onto the pitch.

KEY CONTEXT
Sunday's match was the first for Manchester City since the club was found guilty of 114 charges over breaching Premier League financial rules. Police said City arrived at Anfield by a staff and contractors' entrance amid heightened tensions. Inside the ground, fans held up half-and-half scarves reading 'Shamchester City - The Cheats', banners including 'A Generation Of Supporters Cheated' were displayed, and jeers greeted City's line-up. The BBC also reported Manchester City fans waved inflatable bananas as their team won 3-0.

POLICE RESPONSE
Ch Insp Leanne Hobin said officers and stewards were "there to protect the public and keep them safe" and expressed disappointment that an officer had sustained a serious injury while carrying out that duty. She added that chanting about tragedies "should never be a subject for tribal point-scoring" and said the force will work with clubs to identify perpetrators. Hobin also thanked the majority of the 60,000 fans in attendance for their cooperation.
