Scott Davidson-led US group cleared by Scottish FA to buy Shrewsbury Town
WHAT HAPPENED
The Scottish Football Association has given approval for the dual interests arising from a US consortium's proposed acquisition of Shrewsbury Town and existing links to Spartans FC. The group is led by Scott Davidson and also involves Will Dotson, Craig Graham and former goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

The Spartans said in a statement: "The Scottish FA has given approval to the dual interests arising from the acquisition of Shrewsbury Town FC by the consortium led by The Spartans FC lead shareholder Scott Davidson and the appointment of Scott, Will Dotson and Craig Graham as directors of both The Spartans FC and Shrewsbury Town FC." The club added the ruling "completes the majority of the regulatory aspects of the acquisition".

KEY CONTEXT
The consortium had already passed due diligence and the financial tests set by the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator. The Scottish FA clearance removes concerns about dual ownership with Davidson a majority shareholder at Spartans, where Dotson and Graham are also involved.

Shrewsbury Town sit 14th in League Two, having won three of their nine games so far. Chairman Roland Wycherley put the club up for sale in 2024; negotiations with two previous potential buyers fell through — one in March 2025 and another six months later. Wycherley, 85, said that "time and patience" will still be important once new owners take charge, and the sale will bring an end to his 30-year tenure when completed.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
The takeover negotiations between Davidson's group and Shrewsbury have been ongoing for six months. The parties hope the deal will be finalised before Christmas.
