Scott McTominay resumes Napoli training after heart ablation

Scott McTominay has returned to training with Napoli after undergoing an ablation procedure in Manchester last month to correct an irregular heart rhythm. The operation was described as "a complete success" and Napoli said further diagnostic tests showed he is fit to play, allowing him to rejoin team training after a period of separate work.
MEDICAL BACKGROUND
McTominay was substituted after 56 minutes of Napoli's 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como in August, when a mild benign arrhythmia was discovered and prompted corrective treatment. According to the NHS, an arrhythmia is when the heart beats too quickly or too slowly, or the heartbeat is not steady. The British Heart Foundation explains that a cardiac arrhythmia ablation uses heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a typical heartbeat.
INTERNATIONAL IMPACT
The 29-year-old missed four Scotland fixtures during his recovery, including Tuesday's Nations League defeat by Slovenia. McTominay has scored 15 goals in 73 Scotland appearances. Scotland's next scheduled matches are against Switzerland and North Macedonia in November.
