Tottenham sign Chelsea's Mudryk on loan
Tottenham have bolstered their squad on transfer deadline day by bringing Mykhailo Mudryk to the club on loan from Chelsea and completing the permanent signing of defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

WHAT HAPPENED
Mudryk joins Spurs on loan until the end of the season, with Tottenham holding an option to make the move permanent for £75m. The 25-year-old Ukrainian reunites with Roberto de Zerbi, who was his manager at Shakhtar Donetsk. Mudryk said he was looking forward to training and playing for Tottenham. Chelsea reportedly rejected at least one offer from Leeds before Spurs entered the race late.

Meanwhile, centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, 28, has completed a permanent move to Tottenham worth up to £12m. Adarabioyo has made 70 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Fulham in the summer of 2024 and will replace Kevin Danso after the Austria international moved to Sunderland on loan. On his transfer, Adarabioyo said the move suited the football he wanted to play. His arrival is Tottenham's 10th signing of a summer in which the club have spent over £300m on transfers.

KEY CONTEXT
Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024. He was provisionally suspended after an out-of-competition test in October 2024 returned an "adverse finding" for meldonium and was initially given a four-year ban by the FA. He appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The FA later said anti-doping disciplinary proceedings had been resolved and that Mudryk accepted breaking anti-doping rules, agreeing to a suspension equal to the time already served; he was cleared to return to competition with immediate effect on 31 July 2026.

At Chelsea, Mudryk scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 73 games in all competitions after joining from Shakhtar in 2023 for an initial £61m. De Zerbi said he knew Mudryk from their time together at Shakhtar and valued his attacking qualities.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Mudryk will now be available to restart his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after being cleared to return to competition. Tottenham hold the option to sign him permanently for £75m at the end of the loan. Adarabioyo will join Tottenham's defensive ranks as they move forward in the season following the deadline-day arrivals.
