'Unplayable' & 'almost perfect'- Calvert-Lewin set for England recall?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was central to Leeds United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle at Elland Road, scoring one goal and creating another before being withdrawn late on to a standing ovation from the home crowd. The strike took his tally against Newcastle to eight career goals and continued a rich vein of form in front of goal.
Leeds moved up the table with the victory; the performance also drew strong praise from manager Daniel Farke and former defender Jamie Carragher, who called the display “almost perfect” and described Calvert-Lewin as virtually unplayable.
KEY CONTEXT
- Calvert-Lewin returned to England squad consideration after a March call-up and a substitute appearance against Uruguay; he missed out on the World Cup, with Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins selected as Harry Kane’s deputies for that tournament.
- He has scored four times in 12 England appearances since his senior debut in 2020 (image caption) and has netted three goals in his past four club games, leading the Premier League’s English goalscorers in that period.
- His run at Elland Road put him alongside Mark Viduka as only the second Leeds player to score in five consecutive Premier League home appearances (Viduka’s run was between March and August 2003).
