Wales winger Rabbi Matondo has completed a move to Hibernian on a contract running until the end of the season, with an option for a further year. The 26-year-old had been on trial at Easter Road and is new manager Marink Reedijk's first signing since he replaced David Gray last month.
KEY CONTEXT
Matondo left Norwegian side Brann in August after a five-month spell. He spent almost four years at Rangers — making 70 appearances, around two thirds of which came in the Scottish Premiership — and also had a loan period at Hannover. His club career has included time with Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge. The image caption on the report notes Matondo made his final Rangers appearance in January 2025.
Internationally, Matondo has 15 Wales caps; the most recent of those appearances came last year. His only international goal to date came in 2025 in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan.
WHAT MATONDO BRINGS
Speaking after Hibs' training camp in La Manga during the international break, Reedijk said: "He made an immediate impression during our time in La Manga and has shown a great attitude, strong application and a real willingness to learn and adapt."
The Hibs manager added: "Rabbi gives us pace, directness and a real threat in wide areas, while also bringing a positive personality into the dressing room. He has settled in quickly and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he can make."
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Matondo is available to Hibernian for the remainder of the season under his current deal; the club holds an option to extend for a further year.
