Manchester United midfielder Youri Tielemans looks set to return early from Belgium duty after picking up a yellow card in the 3-0 Nations League win over Turkey. The 29-year-old’s caution was his second in three matches in the competition and will trigger an automatic one-game ban for the upcoming match against France. As a result, Tielemans will not be involved in a playing capacity against Les Bleus and could be permitted to go back to United ahead of their next fixtures.
WHY IT MATTERS
Tielemans has been a regular starter for Manchester United since his summer move from Aston Villa, so his potential early return represents a timely boost for the club ahead of domestic fixtures.
ADDITIONAL TEAM NEWS
Carlos Baleba has fully recovered from an ankle issue sustained before joining Manchester United. The Cameroonian may have to wait longer for a first start but could make his United debut off the bench in the home match against Tottenham Hotspur.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Tielemans will be suspended for Belgium’s match with France next week due to the accumulation of yellow cards. Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford on October 10, where Tielemans’ availability could be relevant if the club permits his early return.
